Communicating via Threads in Channels in Trident (Windows)

In this article we'll learn how you can communicate with ease using threads.

Replying in Threads

In Cliq channels, if the admin has enabled it, you can reply in threads. To reply in a thread:

  1. Hover over the message and click the Reply in Thread  icon or select Reply in Thread from the More options of the message.
  2. Type your message and hit the enter key to send it. 
  3. To continue replying in the thread, click the Reply button under the threaded conversation. 

Renaming Threads 

The thread name will be automatically generated based on the keywords using in the conversation, but you can rename the thread as well. To rename the thread:

  1. Click the name of the thread.

  2. Enter the new name of the thread and press enter.

  3. In the alert that appears, click Yes

Following Threads

To follow a threaded conversation, click Follow on the parent message. 


Alternatively, to follow a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Select Follow from the menu list

You'll automatically start following a thread when you:

  1. Are @mentioned. 
  2. Reply to a message in threads.

Auto-Following Threads

To auto-follow all the threaded conversations in a channel irrespective of whether you send a thread reply or are @mentioned:

  1. Click the Thread  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Click the Settings  icon.
  3. Toggle on the Auto Follow option. 

Unfollowing Threads

To unfollow a threaded conversation, click Unfollow on the parent message. 


Alternatively, to unfollow a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:
  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header. 
  2. Select Unfollow from the menu list

Adding Thread Followers  

To add a channel participant as a thread follower:

  1. Pop out the threaded conversation in a separate chatbox.

  2. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.

  3. Select Add Follower from the menu list.

  4. In the text box, type the user's name and hit enter.


Alternatively, you can also:

  1. Pop out the threaded conversation in a separate chatbox.

  2. Type the + icon followed by the user's name in the text box.   

  3. Press enter.



NotesNote: You can only add channel participants as thread followers.

Removing Thread Followers   

To remove a channel participant as a thread follower:

  1. Pop out the thread in a separate chatbox.

  2. Click the thread's profile image.

  3. In the pop-up that opens, hover over the user's tile whom you want to remove from the group.

  4. Click the More Options icon.

  5. Select Remove.



Closing Threads

To close a threaded conversation:

  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Close Thread from the menu list

Alternatively, to close a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Select Close Thread from the menu list
  3. Click Close Thread in the alert dialog box that appears. 

NotesNote: The closed thread can be reopened later by any channel participant.

Viewing Closed Threads

To view closed threads in a channel:

  1. Click the Thread  icon on the chatbox header.

  2. Click the Settings  icon.

  3. Toggle on the Show Closed Threads option. 

Reopening Closed Threads

To reopen a closed thread: 

  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Reopen Thread from the menu list
Alternatively, if you've opened the thread in a separate chatbox, you can reopen closed threads from the Reopen option at the bottm of the chatbox.

Viewing All the Threads in a Channel

You can view all of the threads in a channel by clicking the Thread  icon on the chatbox header. This will open a dialog in which the threads you're following and are not will be listed separately under two tabs. 

Popping Out Threads in a Separate Chatbox

To pop out and open threads in a separate chatbox:
  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Pop Out from the menu list

Alternatively, you can also open the thread replies inline by clicking on the Replies button and collapse the thread by clicking Hide Replies

 

Notes
Note: To navigate back to the parent channel  from a thread that you've popped out, you can click the  Go to Parent Thread  icon by hovering over the parent message or the name of the channel at the top of the chatbox.

Listing Threaded Conversations

You can customize how to list threads in three ways from Settings:

  • Inline with Parent Chats

  • In Recent Chats Tab

  • In a Separate Threads Tab
