TOTP Integration | Zoho Vault

Time-based One Time Password (TOTP) Integration

Two-factor authentication (TFA) is an essential extra layer of security for your sensitive accounts. To help teams and individuals safely manage their credentials with ease, Vault now allows users to store their TFA codes along with the respective passwords. Users will be able to view auto-generated, time-based, one-time passwords (TOTP) within Vault's interface corresponding to the passwords.

Generating TOTP codes for websites
Before you integrate your TFA codes in Zoho Vault, it's important to set up two-factor authentication for the corresponding website. To do so, find out if your website supports two-factor authentication and follow the steps mentioned in the website to set up TFA for your account. Once you do so, generate the TOTP key to be added to the authenticator from the website manually.
Note: Zoho Vault mobile app supports TOTP QR code scanning. Alternatively, you can manually locate the TOTP key on the website and add it to Vault. If you're unable to find the TOTP key manually, please contact the website's customer support.
Important
To generate a TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) code in Zoho Vault, it requires the TOTP key and accurate device time. If the time on your computer or mobile device is incorrect, the code generated in Vault will not work. If the time on your device is incorrect, follow these steps:
  1. Set your device time to automatic. This can usually be done in the date and time settings of your device.
  2. Alternatively, you can manually set the correct time. You can refer to time.is and set the time on your device accordingly.
Setting up TOTP codes in Zoho Vault
TOTP codes can be set using Vault's web app or browser extensions. To set up TOTP codes for new passwords:
  1. Log in to your Zoho Vault account from the web app or the browser extension.
  2. Select Add Password, then enter your login credentials.

  3. Paste the TOTP key copied from the website in the TOTP Key field in Zoho Vault.

  4. To verify you have set up Vault as your authenticator, copy the one-time password displayed under the Current TOTP field in Zoho Vault and paste it in the website.
  5. Click Update to save your configurations in Zoho Vault.
Note: If your TOTP Key does not satisfy our default TOTP settings, you can customize it by selecting the Settings icon corresponding to the Current TOTP  field.

When set up, users can access their TOTP codes from Vault's interface. Passwords can now be shared along with their TOTP codes with other users.
Note: You can add TOTP for existing passwords as well. To do so, select your password, then click Edit to add your TOTP key.
