WorkDrive TrueSync for Linux lets you access all your WorkDrive files from your desktop without using local storage. Files are stored in the cloud and streamed to your system on demand, with the ability to mark specific items for offline access.
Before installing WorkDrive TrueSync on your Linux computer, make sure you are using one of the supported OS versions:
Supported Flavors and Versions:
- Ubuntu LTS–based distributions: 22.04, 24.04, and derivatives
- Fedora Workstation: Latest stable release
Note: WorkDrive TrueSync may also work on other Linux distributions, provided they meet the app’s system requirements.
Install WorkDrive TrueSync
- Download the WorkDrive TrueSync app (ZohoWorkDriveTS.tar.gz) for Linux (64-bit). [Download link]
Important: Please read the License Agreement and Privacy Policy before downloading the WorkDrive TrueSync app.
- Extract the downloaded ZohoWorkDriveTS.tar.gz file to any preferred folder.
- In the extracted folder, open the terminal (without sudo).

- Run the command: ./installer
This installs the TrueSync application on your computer.
Note: The sudo command is not required to install TrueSync. Running with elevated privileges is unnecessary for installation.
Sign In to WorkDrive
After a successful installation, the Zoho WorkDrive sign-in screen will appear.
- Click Sign in. You'll be taken to the default web browser for signing in to your WorkDrive account.
If you don’t have a Zoho account, click Create a new WorkDrive account.

- Enter your WorkDrive username and password and click Sign in.
- Once authenticated, you'll be redirected to the installation wizard.
- Click Start Sync.

Once the setup is complete, a virtual drive with all your files and folders in WorkDrive will automatically appear in your computer.
Notes:
- By default, all your files and folders will only be available online only.
- When you upload files into an offline folder, those files will be made offline.
- In a folder, you can choose to make some files online only and some offline.
Info: If you already have the WorkDrive Sync app installed, you can still install and use the WorkDrive TrueSync app. Depending on your needs, you can use either app and uninstall the other if desired.
Status icons and context menu
WorkDrive TrueSync for Linux displays the sync status of files and folders via In-App Search.
To open In-App Search:
- Open the system tray and click the Search icon.
- Search for any file or folder to view its sync status.
Status icons
In the In-App search, status icons show the sync status of all your files and folders. Let's see the different status icons below:
1. Online only

Files are only available online. When you open a file, it will then be downloaded to your computer for preview. Once you close the file, it will no longer be available on your computer.
2. Available offline

Files have been downloaded to your computer, and are available offline. Downloaded files will take up the required hard drive space.
3. Partial sync

When a folder has a combination of cloud only and offline files, the partial sync icon will be shown as the status.
4. Sync in progress

When you sync or make some files offline in the virtual drive, the progress icon will be shown as the status until the files are downloaded to your computer.
5. Sync error

When there's an error in syncing or downloading files in your virtual drive, the sync error status icon will be shown over the files. Once the issue is fixed, the file will be synced, and the appropriate status icon will be shown.
Context menu helps you to efficiently manage your stored files or folders in WorkDrive TrueSync application. Simply click on the More actions icon in the in-app search to view the list of options below:

- Available Offline: Downloads the file or folder and keeps it available locally for offline use.
- Online Only: Frees up desktop storage by removing the downloaded contents of the file(s).
- Share: Share the file or folder with members of your team or external collaborators, with full control over permissions.
- Copy WorkDrive Link: Copies the file or folder URL for quick sharing.
- Create External Share Link: Generates a secure external share link with options like:
- Password protection
- Expiry date
- Access permissions
- View on WorkDrive Web: Opens the selected file or folder in the WorkDrive web app.
Limitations:
- Currently, multiple account syncing is not supported in WorkDrive TrueSync for Linux OS.
- Also, Sync Desktop Folders feature is not supported.
Disconnect WorkDrive TrueSync
When you no longer wish to sync your Zoho WorkDrive account with a Computer, you can disconnect that Computer. When you disconnect a computer, the files will be removed from the computer and will be accessible on WorkDrive web.

To disconnect:
- Click the WorkDrive TrueSync icon in the system tray.
- Click the Settings icon and open Preferences.
- Go to the Account tab.
- Click Disconnect Computer, then confirm.
Uninstall WorkDrive TrueSync
- Click the WorkDrive TrueSync icon in the system tray. A popup screen will appear.
- Click the Settings icon in the popup screen.
- Select Quit.
- Go to the folder where you extracted the WorkDrive TrueSync app files during installation.
- In the extracted folder, open the terminal (without sudo) and run the command "./installer -UNINSTALL".

This will uninstall the TrueSync application from your computer.
Tray Icon Support for GNOME Shell
Some Linux distros using the GNOME Shell desktop environment do not support tray icons by default.
