Sync desktop folders seamlessly to WorkDrive
With WorkDrive TrueSync, you can now select specific desktop folders to sync automatically to WorkDrive web. Any changes or new files added to these folders via desktop or via the WorkDrive web app will be instantly backed up, ensuring seamless two-way synchronization.

Notes:
- Currently, you can sync up to five folders from your computer to WorkDrive.
- Synced desktop folders are accessible via WorkDrive web, allowing users to sign in to their WorkDrive account and access their files from anywhere, at any time.
Here's how you can configure this functionality:
- Click the WorkDrive TrueSync icon in the system tray. A small window will appear.
- Click the Settings icon at the top and select Preferences. By default, the General menu will be selected.
- Navigate to the Desktop Folders tab.
- Click Add Folder.
- Choose the folder you want to sync and click Select Folder.
- Confirm the WorkDrive sync location (you can change it if needed) and click Confirm.
The selected folder will now sync automatically with WorkDrive Web. Any files added or updated in the synced folder will be instantly reflected in WorkDrive Web.
Manage synced desktop folders
You can then easily manage your configured desktop folders for automatic sync using the Desktop Folders window.
To do this,
- Click the WorkDrive TrueSync icon in the system tray. A small window will appear.
- Click the Settings icon at the top and select Preferences. By default, the General menu will be selected.
- Navigate to the Desktop Folders tab.
- Click the More actions icon (…) next to a synced desktop folder.
- A dropdown menu will appear with the following options:
- Open folder in Desktop: Opens the selected folder directly on your local computer.
- Open folder in WorkDrive web: Opens the corresponding synced folder in WorkDrive Web for easy online access.
- Stop syncing: Disconnects the selected folder from the WorkDrive web. Any files already synced will remain in the WorkDrive web, and you can manually delete them if needed.

- Who can sync desktop folders to WorkDrive Web?
- Any user can sync desktop folders to My Folders in WorkDrive Web, provided they have sufficient storage.
- Only Admin users can sync desktop folders to Team Folders. If an Admin is downgraded to Organizer, Editor, Commenter, or Viewer, their syncing access to Team Folders will be revoked.
- Who can access synced desktop folders in WorkDrive Web?
- Users with the appropriate access permissions can view and manage synced desktop folders.
- Is this feature available to all WorkDrive plans?
- Yes, it is available to all users, regardless of their WorkDrive plan.
- Are there any restrictions on syncing desktop folders?
- Yes, some limitations apply:
- Certain OS-specific folders (e.g. program files, temp files, app data, etc.,) cannot be synced.
- You cannot sync a sub-folder or parent folder of an already syncing folder, even if syncing is set up from a different WorkDrive account.
Note: WorkDrive TrueSync supports syncing with up to three different WorkDrive accounts.
- How many desktop folders can be synced?
You can sync up to five desktop folders per device.
For example, if you link the same account across multiple devices, you can sync up to 5 folders on each device.
- What happens if I stop syncing a desktop folder?
- Syncing will stop, but already synced files will remain in WorkDrive Web.
- What happens if my role in a Team Folder is downgraded?
- Since Admin privileges are required for syncing desktop folders to Team Folders, syncing will be automatically stopped if your role is downgraded. A notification will inform you of the change.
- What happens if a desktop folder, its parent folder, or the Team Folder is deleted?
- A notification will alert you that the desktop folder is no longer available, and syncing will stop automatically.
- What happens if I move the parent folder or a syncing desktop folder across libraries or to another machine?
- If a resource is moved across libraries, it is treated as deleted from the source library and new in the destination library. This stops syncing, and a notification will inform you.
- What happens if sub-resources of a desktop folder are moved into another desktop folder (on the web or another machine)?
- The move event will sync, transferring the sub-resources to the new desktop folder.
- What happens if I move a desktop folder within WorkDrive Web or to another machine?
- Moving across libraries is not supported and will stop syncing.
- Moving within the same library does not affect sync.
- What happens if I rename a desktop folder on the web or another machine?
- Syncing is supported for OS-specific folders like Desktop and Documents, as well as full drives (e.g., D: drive). However, renaming these folders may cause issues, so renaming a synced desktop folder is not allowed.
- What happens if a desktop folder or its parent folder is deleted, renamed, or moved on my computer?
- A notification will inform you that syncing has stopped for the affected folder.
- What happens if I move one desktop folder into another?
- Syncing for the moved folder will stop, and a notification will be displayed.
