Copy files and folders
Copying lets you create a duplicate of files or folders in another location, while keeping the original content intact. This is useful when you want to reuse the same files across multiple folders or teams.
To copy files and folders
Select the files and folders you want to copy.
Right-click the selected files or folders and choose Copy to.
The Copy dialog box opens.
Alternatively, click the More actions icon (⋯) next to the Download button in the top action bar, and then choose Copy to.
Tip: You can also select the files and folders and press C on your keyboard.
Select the destination folder or sub-folder.
Click Copy at the bottom-right of the dialog box.
The selected files and folders will be copied to the chosen destination.
Note: When you copy files or folders, the original share permissions are not retained.
Permissions and limitations to copy files and folders
Within a Team Folder
To copy files and folders within a Team Folder, you must be a member of the Team Folder with at least the Editor role.
From a Team Folder to your My Folders
To copy files and folders from a Team Folder to your My Folders, you must be a member of the Team Folder and can have any role.
From one Team Folder to another
A member with any role in a Team Folder can copy files to another Team Folder. The member must have at least the Editor role in the destination Team Folder.
From a Team Folder to a shared folder
You can copy files and folders from a Team Folder where you have any role to a shared folder where you have at least the Editor role.
From your My Folders to a Team Folder
To copy files and folders from your My Folders to a Team Folder, you must have at least the Editor role in that Team Folder.
From your My Folders to a shared folder
As a collaborator, you can copy files and folders to a shared folder where you have at least the permission to edit.
When you copy files or folders, no previous share permissions will be retained.
What is a shared folder? A shared folder is a folder that is shared with you individually by another WorkDrive user or via a group with permission to create, edit, or organize files and folders inside the shared folder. You can find all the files and folders shared with you by other WorkDrive users in Shared with Me.
Move files and folders
Moving files and folders changes their location in WorkDrive. Use this option when you want to reorganize content or place files in the correct folder for access and collaboration.
To move files and folders
Select the files and folders you want to move.
Right-click the selected files or folders and choose Move to.
The Move dialog box opens.
Alternatively, click the More actions icon (⋯) next to the Download button in the top action bar, and then choose Move to.
Tip: You can also select the files and folders and press Z on your keyboard.
Select the destination folder or sub-folder.
Click Move at the bottom-right of the dialog box.
The selected files and folders will be moved to the chosen destination.
Permissions and limitations to move files and folders
Within a Team Folder
Only the Organizers and Admins of a Team Folder can move files and folders within the Team Folder.
From a Team Folder to your My Folders
Only the Team Folder admins can move resources from their Team Folder to their My Folders.
From one Team Folder to another
Only the Team Folder Admins can move files and folders from the Team Folder to another Team Folder. They must have at least the Editor role in the destination Team Folder.
From a Team Folder to a shared folder
Only the Team Folder admins can move files and folders from that Team Folder to a shared folder. They must have at least the Editor role in the destination folder.
From your My Folders to a Team Folder
To move files and folders from your My Folders to a Team Folder, you must have at least the Editor role in that Team Folder.
If you have shared a file or folder from your My Folders with team members or external users before you move it to a Team Folder, the share permission of the destination Team Folder will apply alongside the previous share permission.
If external sharing is disabled in the destination Team Folder, share permissions of external users will not be retained.
From your My Folders to a shared folder
As a collaborator, you can move files and folders to a shared folder where you have at least the permission to edit.
If you have shared a file from your My Folders with some team members or external users before you move it to a shared folder, share permission of the destination folder will apply, alongside the previous share permission.
When a file or folder with lower permission is moved into a folder where the user has higher permission, the higher permission will take precedence.
Keyboard shortcuts for copy and move
You can use keyboard shortcuts to copy or move files and folders:
Copy: Command/Ctrl + C
Move: Command/Ctrl + X
Paste: Command/Ctrl + V
You can copy or move files and folders between WorkDrive browser tabs, as long as both tabs are signed in to the same account.
Using keyboard shortcuts, you can copy or move a maximum of 100 items at a time.
