WorkDrive scans every file before you download it to your system.
If a virus is detected in a file that you're downloading, you will be shown an alert message. You can choose to cancel the download or continue it at your own risk.
If you are downloading multiple items and some files are infected with a virus, virus files will be skipped and the remaining items will be downloaded to your system.
Allowed actions on virus files
Except downloading, all actions are allowed (including preview, share, copy, and move) on virus files by default. File owners can still download at their own risk.
If you have shared the files with other users, they will not be able to download the file.
Important things to know
- Virus scanning has a file size limit of 100 MB. Files greater than 100 MB will not be scanned for viruses.
- Virus scanning will be done on all file formats.
- A virus scan will be done every 24 hours for a file. If a file has been scanned for virus, the same scan result (virus file or not virus file) will be shown for 24 hours, and after that the file will be scanned again during the next download action.
- In the WorkDrive desktop sync apps (Sync and TrueSync), we will do virus scanning only for files shared externally between two different organizations (cross-org). Users can still download virus files from the failed lists at their own risk.
- Virus scanning will not be done when files are uploaded to WorkDrive.
A file is marked as virus and the owner is trying to download the file.
A file is marked as virus and the collaborator is trying to download the file.
A user is trying to download multiple files/folders and some of the files are marked as virus files. We will add a .txt file (Skipped_Files.txt) and list all the files that failed to download along with the failure reasons.
Downloading executable files
An executable file may perform a series of commands in the user machine. Executing an unknown file might harm your system. If the executable file is detected as a virus, we will show a virus-alert dialog.
Even when the executable file is not detected as a virus, we will show an alert dialog to warn and ask users to proceed with caution. You should only download an executable file if you trust the file's source provider.
False virus detection
We will update virus signatures (a code used to find viruses) frequently. There may be cases where files are falsely detected as virus files earlier and updated as not virus files later, and vice versa.
Even though we scan files for viruses while downloading, it's always recommended to protect your system with a standard antivirus software.
