How to shorten merge field names
Overview
Long field names can disrupt the layout of your template by causing unwanted line wrapping and uneven spacing. Setting short names allows you to assign concise labels to fields, helping maintain a clean and consistent layout without altering the original data source names.
Steps
- After inserting the field in your document, click on the field for which you want to shorten, and click Set Short Name. (You can also click the Set Short Name icon besides the field's name under the Manage fields section in the Automate panel).
- A dialog box opens where you can modify the name of that particular field.
- Once you have assigned a shorter name for the field click Modify.
Note: To delete the short name you added, click on Clear Short Name.
Troubleshooting
1. Problem : Is there a way to make a merge field fit the column width without wrapping?
Solution : Set shorter names for the merge fields by clicking on the field name and modifying it.
