How to insert and format date fields in Zoho Writer

Overview

Zoho Writer lets you insert dates as dynamic fields and control how they appear in your document. You can format dates in two ways:

Change the document-wide date format for autofields
Change the format of an individual date field after inserting it

Steps

How to insert a date field and change its format

Use this method when you want a specific date to appear in a different format without changing the document’s overall settings.

Place your cursor where you want to insert the date.
Go to Fields --> Date or use the slash command, and select the desired date field.
Select the inserted date field in the document and click the calendar icon to launch the Custom Date Autofield dialog.
Choose the required date format from the field formatting options.
The date field updates immediately.

Note: This change applies only to the selected date field.

How to change/customize the document-wide date format

Use this method when you want all dynamically inserted dates, such as Dynamic Today’s Date, to follow the same format throughout the document.

Open your document in Zoho Writer.
Go to Settings next to your profile picture and select Language & Region from the dropdown.
In the Date format field, choose the required format.

Examples:

DD/MM/YYYY
MM/DD/YYYY
YYYY-MM-DD

Click Save.

All date fields in the document will automatically update to the selected format.

FAQs

1. Does changing the document date format affect manually typed dates?
No. Only dynamic date fields are affected. Manually typed dates remain unchanged.

2. Can different date formats be used in the same document?
Yes. You can apply a document-wide format and still customize individual date fields as needed.
