How to customize lists in Zoho Writer

Overview  

Lists are a great way to organize content in your documents. In Zoho Writer, you can do more than just create simple bulleted or numbered lists. You can fully customize them. From setting your preferred list style as default to using images as bullets, Writer makes it easy to personalize your lists to match your document style.

Prerequisites  

  1. For Customizing Image lists : Images saved on your desktop or in online accounts (Google Photos, Flickr) can be used.

Steps

How to set a default ordered or unordered list style in Zoho Writer

Whatever list style you choose (shape, size, indent, spacing) will become the default style for all future lists you create in that document.
  1. Insert your preferred ordered (numbered) or unordered (bulleted) list in the editor.
  2. Place your cursor inside the list.
  3. Right-click to open the contextual menu.
  4. Select Set as Default Ordered List or Set as Default Unordered List.



How to create image lists  

To make your lists visually engaging, you can replace bullets with images:
  1. Position the cursor where you want the list to begin.
  2. Go to Format menu > More paragraph options.
  3. Go to the Design tab and click the drop-down arrow next to the Bulleted List icon.
  4. Select Use Image



  5. In the Image Library pop-up:
    1. Choose from your existing image library,
    2. Upload an image from your desktop,
    3. Enter a web URL, or
    4. Authenticate your Google Photos or Flickr account and choose from there. Your chosen image will now replace the bullets in your list.

How to adjust the gap between bullet/number and text in Zoho Writer

  1. Open your document in Zoho Writer.
  2. Right-click on the ruler at the top of the editor. If the ruler is not visible, go to View menu and turn on Ruler.
  3. Select Tabs from the menu.
  4. In the Tab Stop Positions window, reduce the Default Tab Stops value.
    (Minimum allowed value: 0.125)


  5. Apply changes, and the gap between the list style and content will be reduced.

Additional Note

  1. Default list settings are applicable only to your current document.
  2. Image lists cannot be set as default.

Troubleshooting  

Error/Symptom: My uploaded image is not showing in the list.
Recommended solution: Ensure the image size is appropriate and the file format is supported. If uploaded from a URL, verify that the link is accessible.

Error/ Symptom: The list style did not apply.
Recommended solution: Make sure the cursor is placed inside the list before attempting to change or set the style.
