Thousand separator, decimal separator, negative numbers and currency vary based on locale. To format your formula results based on your locale, set your language from the Languages dropdown in the bottom panel. By doing this, Writer adapts to your local number format automatically.

In the formula dialog box, choose the Number Format you wish to have for your result.
