How to replace characters like line breaks or tabs in a document?
Overview
The Find and Replace tool in Zoho Writer helps you search for and replace text, numbers, and formatting elements across a document. In addition to plain text, you can find and replace special characters such as tabs, manual line breaks, paragraph marks, and whitespace to fix formatting issues and standardize content.
Steps
- Open Find and Replace. Windows: Ctrl + F Mac: Command + F
- In the Find field, select the character you want to replace (Manual line break). Other options include:
- Tab Character
- Manual Line Break
- Paragraph
- Any Number
- Any Letter
- Hyphens and Dashes
- In the Replace with field, choose:
- Another special character, or
- Plain text, or
- Leave it empty to remove the character
- Click Replace to update one instance, or Replace All to update the entire document.
Example Scenario: CRM or spreadsheet data often includes manual line breaks within a single field.
Find: Manual Line Break
Replace with: Single space
Result: Customer names, addresses, and notes appear as a single continuous line instead of breaking mid-sentence.
