Placeholder for image fields

All templates might require a different placeholder image depending on the type of the document you create. With Writer, image fields can now have a custom placeholder image.
  • Click on the image field, you will see a panel named Image Field Options on the left side.
  • At the bottom of the panel, under Others, you can change the placeholder image to suit your requirements.

Advanced Date Field Settings

The locale, format, and time zone of the date field that you have inserted can be configured as per your requirements. Also, you can set the same date format as in the data source or select any other format from the various options to appear in the merged document.

  • Go to Field Settings.
  • In the Date field click Configure under Format.
  • Select the input locale, format and time zone appropriately. Check Output date format is the same as the data source date format if you want the same date format as the data source.
  • You can see a preview of both the data source and output date formats.

You can also make additional adjustments like add/subtract days and exclude weekends or weekdays as and when required. This is used when you want to set a customized date for your merged letters, set a deadline fall on the next working day and more without having to make these changes manually every time you merge.

To make these adjustments,

  • Click on the date field for which you want to make additional adjustments to.
  • You will see the following three options . Select the first one.
  • The following dialog box opens where you can add/subtract days and exclude weekdays or weekends.

Date format has to be configured in order to make these additional adjustments.


Since you can repeat blocks and table rows automatically, you'll need an additional tool to number these records and subform items in sequence like a serial number column. This can be done automatically just by inserting the auto-number field.

To create an auto-number field,

  • Click Create Fields.
  • Enter a label name and select Auto-Number from the list of field types.
  • Choose any format from the dropdown list as per your requirement.
  • Click Configure under 'Value' and a dialog box will open where you can choose a number from which you want the auto-number series to begin.
  • You can also add a prefix and a suffix if necessary. Click Save.
  • The following is a preview of two bills of Zylker Pastries after inserting the auto-number field.

Shorten Field Names

Fields with a lengthy name might look untidy and cause ambiguity. Long field names also mean that your content might look drastically different if the values in those fields are much shorter. With the short names feature, you can assign short names for fields regardless of their original name in the data source.

To do this,

  • After inserting the field in your document, click on the field for which you want to make changes to.
  • You will see the following three options . Select the second option.
  • A dialog box opens where you can modify the name of that particular field.
  • Once you have assigned a shorter name for the field, click Modify.
