Working with Documents Offline
Overview
Zoho Writer’s Offline Mode empowers you to access, edit, and save your documents—even when your internet connection isn’t reliable. Your edits are stored locally and will automatically sync once you're back online. This ensures seamless productivity, whether you're traveling, dealing with Wi-Fi outages, or working in remote locations. With Offline Mode enabled, Writer lets you work on your documents even when you don't have reliable internet access. Any changes made while you're offline will sync automatically the next time you connect your computer to the internet.
Steps
Enable offline mode
You can launch the offline mode in just a few clicks.
To enable offline setup
- Go to https://writer.zoho.com/documents
- Choose Offline from the left panel of the dashboard.
- Click Enable Writer Offline.

Please wait some time for the files to be synced offline. Once the setup is enabled, you can edit the most recent documents in offline mode.
- Once the setup is enabled, you can edit your most recent documents in offline mode.
- You can also manually enable Writer Offline for individual documents by right clicking on a particular document and selecting Make Available Offline.
- Offline documents are browser dependent. You need to set up offline mode again if you choose to use a new browser.
- We do not recommend setting up the offline feature on public computers.
Seamless offline
Carry on writing even when your internet connection drops suddenly.
We will notify to work offline for the document you are currently working on when there is a sudden drop in your internet. You can continue editing and the changes will be synced automatically once the connection is restored.
Let's see how:
- When you lose internet in the middle of your work, we will notify with a message saying “You’re facing connectivity issues. Use our offline mode to continue working”. There will be a Work offline link for you to choose to continue working offline, if needed.
- Click the Work Offline link.
- In the pop-up that follows, click on the “Start editing this document offline” button.
The document will now be saved offline in your browser. All the edits will be synced automatically whenever you’re back online.
Edit files offline
To edit files offlin
- Go to https://writer.zoho.com/documents
- Choose Offline from the left panel of the dashboard. The offline documents will be listed.
- Click on the required file and edit them offline. The edited documents will be updated to your Writer account as soon as you go online.
Sync documents modified offline
In order to sync the document content that was modified offline, you can either open the document (if not already opened) or all the offline documents will be automatically synced when you are connected to the internet.
To sync documents
- Go to https://writer.zoho.com/documents
- Choose Offline from the left panel of the dashboard. The offline documents will be listed.
- The documents will be synced once the internet is connected.
Revoke offline access
You can revoke offline access to all or a particular document whenever required.
To revoke offline access
- Go to writer.zoho.com/writer/documents
- Choose Offline from the left panel of the dashboard. All the offline documents will be listed.
- Click on the Revoke Offline Access button on the top right corner of the dashboard. Offline access will be removed to all the listed documents.
- To revoke access to a particular document, click Options and choose to Revoke Offline Access to that document alone.
Troubleshooting
1. Error/Symptom: Offline mode is not working in Firefox.
Possible Cause: Firefox is blocking cookies or site data required for Writer to cache offline resources.
Recommended Solution:
- Open Firefox and click More options in the top-right corner.
- Select Preferences and navigate to the Privacy & Security tab.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click Manage Permissions.
- In the Exceptions – Cookies and Site Data pop-up, enter the Writer domain and click Allow. Save the changes.
- Reload the Writer dashboard.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection and keep the Writer tab open for at least a minute so all offline resources can be cached.
