How to pin a message?

1. Hover over the message you want to pin.

2. Click on the Kebab icon (three dots) and then select Pin message. 

3. You will get a pop-up to specify how long you want the message to be pinned. You can also notify the participants that you have pinned a message in this window. 

4. The time to pin the message ranges from 1 hour to Forever. You can also pin the message until a specific date and time.

5. The message will be pinned on the top of the chat. 

6. You can also pin multiple messages in a chat by following the same steps.

Note: When you pin more than one message, you will get an option to Pin to top in the pop-up window, which will replace the current pinned message on the top of the chat.

7. Click on Pin to pin the selected messages.

How to view the pinned messages?

1. Click on the Pin icon next to the pinned message on the top of the chat.

2. You can now see all of the pinned messages in a chat in the Pinned Messages list.

Note: You can pin up to 25 messages per chat/channel.

What are the options available in the Pinned Messages list? 

You have the following options that you can perform in the Pinned Messages list:

1. Drag and drop: Hover over a message and click on the kebab icon near your name to drag and reorder the pinned messages. 

Note: If you drag and drop any message to the top, then that message will be pinned to the top of the chat.

2. Update pin duration: You can change the duration of the pinned message. 

3. Go to message: This option will take you to the specific pinned message.

4. More (kebab icon): The more option has the following options: 

•  Select - This option allows you to select the pinned messages.

• Copy: This will copy the pinned message to the clipboard.

• Pin to top: You can use this option to pin the message to the top of the chat.

• Unpin: You can unpin the message by clicking on this option.

Note:

• Pin to top option will only appear for the messages that are not pinned to the top of the chat.

• If you unpin the top message, the next pinned message will automatically appear at the top of the chat.

• When you edit a pinned message, the changes will get reflected in the pin.

• A miniature preview of the image will appear in the pinned message at the top if you pin a message with an image. For links, if the link is unfurled, an image preview will be displayed. In the case of audio, video, or text files, the file's extension will be shown in the miniature preview. Clicking on it will display the media in full view. 

Pin messages configuration in Channels   

For each channel type, default permissions to pin a message differ based on the role.

These configurations apply to pin message, unpin message, and update pin message expiry configuration:

Note: You can edit channel permissions to pin messages in the Channel info.

How to unpin messages?

1. Click on the Pin icon on the top of the chat and go to the Pinned Messages list.

2. Click on the Kebab icon and then select Unpin.

3. Click on Unpin in the confirmation pop-up. 

Note:

• If you delete the message that is pinned, it will remove the message from the pin.

• Clearing the conversation on a channel will remove the message from the pin.

• The pinned message will only be removed if the person who sent the message deletes it in a 1-1 chat.
