Dynamic QR Code | Zoho TouchPoint

All about Dynamic QR Codes

1. What is a Dynamic QR Code?

A Dynamic QR Code is a scannable code with a short URL embedded inside it. That short URL redirects the scanner to your chosen destination page. Because the redirect is controlled by the short URL rather than the QR code itself, you can change where the code points at any time, without generating or reprinting a new code.

Zoho TouchPoint Dynamic QR Codes go further than basic generators by connecting every scan to a trackable, actionable destination, such as a lead form, appointment calendar, profile page, or survey, feeding results directly into your Zoho ecosystem workflows.

TIP

The key question isn't "Can I create a QR code?", it's "What happens after someone scans it?" TouchPoint lets you decide and change that answer, track the results, and connect it to your business workflows.

2. Static vs Dynamic: what's the difference?

Feature Static QR Code Dynamic QR Code (TouchPoint)
Destination URL Fixed permanently at creation Changeable at any time

Scan analytics None Full analytics
Version history None Per-destination tracking
CRM / workflow integration None Full Zoho ecosystem
Branded, customizable design Basic (most free tools) Full Design Studio
Short URL included - Auto-generated (editable on Enterprise and Ultimate)

3. Create your QR Code

NOTE

The create flow runs through five stages, shown in the progress bar at the top of the screen: Name & assign, Design dynamic QR, Set destination, Send for approval, and Reviewed. The steps below follow that order.

  1. Log in to Zoho TouchPoint and click Dynamic QR Code on the Create page.
  2. Enter a name that helps you identify where the code will be used (for example, "Trade Show Brochure - Mumbai 2026" or "Product Box - Model X"). This name appears in your analytics. Then pick the Owner from the dropdown, which defaults to you.
  3. Customize the appearance of the code itself, including the pattern style, eye shape, colors, and logo placement. You can also add a CTA frame around the code (for example, "Scan Me" or "Book a Free Call").
  4. After designing, always scan the code with your phone to confirm it works correctly. Heavy customization can occasionally reduce scan reliability. If it fails, simplify the design and test again.

IMPORTANT

Always test your QR code before printing or deploying. A code that fails to scan on a billboard or product box cannot easily be replaced.

4. Choose a destination

After designing the code, select what happens when someone scans it. You can choose from any of the 10 currently available TouchPoint destination types (Survey Form is coming soon):

Destination Best used for
Profile Networking, events, conference badges
vCard Quick contact saving from printed materials
Lead Magnet Form Brochures, trade shows, OOH advertising, product packaging
Zoho Forms Reusing a form you have already built in Zoho Forms
Appointment Form Service businesses, consultants, healthcare
Survey Form COMING SOON Receipts, restaurant tables, product packaging, post-event feedback
Link Page Marketing campaigns with multiple CTAs
Website URL Directing to any existing page
App Download Product packaging, retail, app launch campaigns
Instant Message Service counters, storefronts, customer support
Instant Email Printed ads, business stationery

To build a new destination, pick a type from the destination selector. To point this code at something you have already made, use Pick from your existing destinations under Reuse.

5. Download and deploy

Once the destination is set, your QR code is ready to download and use.

Download formats

  • PNG – Suitable for digital use, web pages, presentations, and low-resolution print.
  • SVG – Recommended for print. This vector format scales to any size without quality loss, which is essential for large-format printing such as banners, standees, and billboards.

TIP

Always download in SVG format for any printed material. PNG files pixelate at large sizes and can become unscannable. Hand the SVG file to your designer or printer directly.

Short URL

Every QR code also comes with a short URL, the same link embedded in the code. Use this URL wherever a QR code isn't practical: social media bios, email body text, SMS campaigns, or digital ads.

On Enterprise and Ultimate editions, you can replace the auto-generated slug with one of your own. While designing the code, open PersonalizeCustom Smart URL and edit the part after the domain.

NOTE

Zoho TouchPoint cannot design full marketing collateral such as brochures, standees, or flyers. Download your QR code and hand it to your designer to incorporate into your print layouts.

6. Changing the destination

This is the defining capability of a Dynamic QR Code, and it is available on all editions. You can point a printed, deployed QR code to a completely different destination without touching the physical material.

  1. In your TouchPoint dashboard, open the Dynamic QR tab and switch the view to My Dynamic QR, then select your QR code.
  2. Click Edit Destination, then select a new destination from the available types, or create a new one.
  3. Click Save. Anyone scanning the printed or deployed QR code from this moment will reach the new destination. Nothing about the physical code changes.

Example: A conference organizer prints one QR code on all event materials. Before the event it points to a registration form. During the event it switches to the day's schedule. After the event it points to a feedback survey, all without reprinting a single sheet.

7. Version-based analytics

Every time you change a QR code's destination, Zoho TouchPoint automatically creates a new version and tracks it independently. This means you never lose historical scan data, and you can compare performance across every destination the code has ever pointed to.

Version Destination Active period Interactions
v1 Event Registration Form May 1 to May 14 1,200 scans · 940 form fills
v2 Event Schedule Page May 15 to May 16 800 scans
v3 Post-Event Survey May 17 to present 430 scans · 310 responses

Additional analytics available for each version and overall include:

  • Total scans and unique scanners
  • Geographic distribution (country, city)
  • Device type and OS
  • Time-of-day and day-of-week scan trends
  • Conversion actions: form submissions, CTA clicks, appointments booked
  • Drop-off points and time-to-action on destination pages

TIP

On Enterprise and Ultimate editions, if a version underperforms relative to others, TouchPoint will surface a smart recommendation. For example: "Your product brochure destination had 45% lower engagement than your lead form. Consider updating the content."

8. Common use cases

Place QR codes on billboards, newspaper ads, magazine features, and transit advertising. Link to a lead form or landing page, and measure exactly how many interactions each placement generates. Change the destination to a new offer without reprinting.

Product packaging

Add a QR code inside or on product packaging linked to warranty registration, setup guides, or support resources. You can later redirect it to a loyalty program or product review form, without changing the packaging.

Events and conferences

Use a single QR code throughout an event lifecycle: pre-event registration, then on-site schedule and resources, then a post-event feedback survey. One code, three destinations, full analytics on each.

Retail storefronts

Display a QR code on your storefront window. Even when closed, customers can browse products, book consultations, or join your mailing list. Update the destination for seasonal promotions without replacing signage.

Recruitment campaigns

Print QR codes on career fair materials and job advertisements, linking directly to a job application form or talent community sign-up. Track which placements generate the most qualified candidates.

9. Frequently asked questions

If I change the destination, do I need to reprint the QR code?

No. The physical QR code never changes. The short URL inside it simply redirects to wherever you've set the destination in your dashboard.

Can I use the same QR code in multiple locations?

Yes, but you will not be able to distinguish scan data by location in analytics. For campaigns where location-level tracking matters, such as comparing two different billboard placements, create a separate QR code for each location.

What file format should I use for large-format printing?

Always use SVG. This is a vector format that scales to any size, from billboard to business card, without any loss of quality or scan reliability.

Is there a limit on how many times I can change the destination?

No. You can change the destination as many times as you need in all editions. Each change creates a new version tracked separately in analytics.

Can I track which specific location or campaign a scan came from?

You can see geographic data (country, city) for all scans. For placement-level tracking, create one QR code per placement, for example one for your billboard and a separate one for your magazine ad, so you can compare scan data directly in analytics.

Why is my QR code not scanning reliably after I customized it?

Heavy customization, such as very small quiet zones, low contrast colors, or large logo overlays, can reduce scan reliability. Try increasing color contrast, reducing the logo size, or simplifying the pattern. Always test before printing.
