Transitioning to the Next Gen UI in Vertical Studio

Zoho Vertical Studio is transitioning to the Next Gen UI, a redesigned workspace that brings streamlined navigation, flexible ways to work with your data, and easier access to frequently used configuration options.
The Next Gen UI is scheduled to be introduced in Vertical Studio starting October 25, 2026. New applications will use the Next Gen UI by default, while existing applications will transition to the new experience as part of the rollout. The transition will be mandatory across all organizations from December 25, 2026.
This guide helps you understand what the new interface will look like and prepare your applications for the transition. It walks you through the new navigation, module views, configuration shortcuts, Interactions view, Global Search, Quick Create, Reports, Analytics, personalization options, and other changes you can expect.
Info
Note:
The transition changes how you navigate and work with your application. Your application's data, configurations, custom code, widgets, client scripts, integrations, and APIs remain unaffected.
For complete information about rollout dates, preview options, grace periods, and transition requirements, see FAQs: Next Gen UI Rollout for Vertical Studio.

Where this applies

Next Gen UI appears in two places:
  1. Developer Console Sandbox where you build, configure, and test your applications.
  2. Subscriber orgs where your customers use the application you have published.

Understanding the interface layout

The Next Gen UI is organized into a sidebar and a main pane. The sidebar provides access to your application's modules and other resources, while the main pane displays the page or configuration area you are currently working with.
The sidebar provides access to:
  1. Your application's modules
  2. Reports
  3. Analytics
  4. Module-specific configuration options
  5. and a lot more
The module list is scrollable, allowing you to access all the modules available in your application. Select a module from the sidebar to open it in the main pane.

Main pane

The main pane displays the content associated with your current selection. For example, selecting Leads from the sidebar opens the Leads module in the main pane.
When you select a configuration option from a module's More menu, the corresponding configuration page also opens in the main pane.

Collapse or expand the sidebar

You can collapse the sidebar when you need more space to work with your application.
To collapse the sidebar, select the Collapse icon at the bottom of the sidebar. When the sidebar is collapsed, select it to expand it again.

Module navigation

Your application's modules are listed in the sidebar as a scrollable list. Select any module to open it in the main pane. If your application has a large number of modules, scroll through the sidebar to find the module you need.

Access module configuration

You can access commonly used module configuration options directly from the sidebar without navigating to Setup.
  1. In the sidebar, locate the module you want to configure.
  2. Select the More icon (…) next to the module.
  3. Select the configuration option you need.
Depending on the module and your permissions, you can access options such as:
  1. Field Layouts
  2. Buttons
  3. Automation
  4. Workflows
  5. Other module-specific configurations

The selected configuration page opens in the main pane.

Info
Note: Selecting a configuration shortcut replaces the page currently open in the main pane. Save any work in progress before navigating to a configuration option.

Module views

Next Gen UI provides different ways to view and work with records in a module. You can switch between Split, Grid, Chart, and Timeline views based on how you want to work with your data.

Split View

Use Split View to divide your records into groups based on a field or criteria and view the groups side by side.
To create a Split View:
  1. Open the required module and select Split from the view selector.
  2. Select Create Split View.
  3. Enter a name for the Split View.
  4. Under View based on, select Criteria or Picklist/User depending on your requirement.
  5. Under Split by, select the field you want to use for the split.
  6. Under Share with, choose who can access the Split View:
    1. Only me
    2. Everyone
    3. Selected users
  7. Define the criteria for each split and save the Split View.

You can also switch an individual split to a chart to visualize the data within that group.

For example, to organize your Deals by Deal Amount, name the Split View Deal Size and create three groups: Small for deals below 5,000, Medium for deals from 5,000 to 50,000, and Large for deals above 50,000.

Grid view

Grid View displays your module records in a spreadsheet-like table, allowing you to view and update multiple records without opening each record individually.
To work with records in Grid View:
  1. Open the required module and select Grid from the view selector.
  2. Edit field values directly in the grid.
  3. To update multiple records with the same value, select the required rows and make the change.
  4. To apply a value to multiple consecutive records, drag the value down the column.

Analyze records in Grid View

You can also analyze your records directly from the grid without switching to another module or report.
For example, you can:
  1. Convert a picklist column into a chart to visualize the distribution of values.
  2. Apply Sum, Average, Minimum, or Maximum to a number column to view aggregate values.

Chart view

Chart View displays your module records as a visual chart directly within the module. It helps you analyze your data and identify patterns without switching to the Reports module.
Select Chart from the view selector to open Chart View.
You can use Chart View to get a visual overview of your records and analyze the data you are currently working with.

Timeline view

Timeline View displays your module records chronologically, helping you understand how records are distributed over a period of time.
You can view the timeline by day, week, month, or quarter. Select Timeline from the view selector, then choose the required time period to change how your records are displayed.

Timeline View is useful for identifying time-based patterns and trends across your records.

Filters, sort, and view options

The controls for filtering, sorting, and changing the way records are displayed are grouped together above the record list.
Use these controls to refine the records displayed in a module and organize them according to your requirements.

Your existing filters and sort orders are retained when you transition to the Next Gen UI. If you are previewing an existing application, verify that your filters and sort orders work as expected.

Interactions view

The Interactions view brings the interactions associated with a record together in one place, giving you a consolidated view of the record's history.
To view a record's interactions:
  1. Open the required module.
  2. Select a record.
  3. Open the Interactions view.
You can review the record's interactions from a single view instead of navigating between different sections of the record.

Global search and Quick Create

The top bar provides quick access to Global Search and Quick Create, so you can find information or create records without navigating through your modules.
Use Global Search to find records, modules, and other information available across your application.
To search:
  1. Select the Search icon at the top of the page.
  2. Enter your search term.
  3. Select the relevant result to open it.

Quick Create

The Quick Create menu is available from the + icon. Use it to create records without first opening the corresponding module. Select + and choose the type of record you want to create.
Depending on your application's configuration, you can create records from different modules and create organization modules from the same menu.

Reports

The Reports tab gives you a consolidated view of every report available to you. Select the tab and the sidebar switches to show the folders your reports are organized in, so you can get to the right one without extra navigation.

Analytics

The Analytics tab gives you a dashboard-level view of your application's key metrics. Create dashboards for what you need to track and share them with all users or a selected group.

Personalize your workspace

The Next Gen UI provides options to personalize how your application looks and how your branding appears in the new workspace.

Dark Mode

Switch to Dark Mode for a darker interface that can be more comfortable in low-light environments.
To switch to Dark Mode, open the theme or display options and select Dark Mode.

Review your theme colors and branding

Theme colors may render differently in the Next Gen UI compared to the current interface. Review your application's appearance after transitioning to ensure that your colors and branding work well with the new interface.
You do not need to publish a new application version for the theme-colour changes to take effect. The difference is caused by the platform-level UI change.
As part of your transition review:
  1. Preview your application in a Sandbox or test account.
  2. Check your theme colors in both Light Mode and Dark Mode.
  3. Verify that your logo and other branding elements remain visible and legible against the new sidebar and header.

Working across devices

The Next Gen UI is responsive and adapts to different screen sizes, allowing users to access your application across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
The layout and available workspace adjust automatically based on the device being used.

Features unavailable in the Next Gen UI

The following features are currently unavailable in the Next Gen UI for Vertical Studio and are planned for a future release:
  1. Teamspaces
  2. Team Modules
  3. Work Queue
