Set root domain as primary domain using ME CloudDNS ANAME option

The primary domain will be displayed in the address bar of a web browser when the site is accessed. It is not possible to set the root domain (domain name without www) as the primary domain in Zoho Sites.

If you want only your root domain name (domain without www) to be set as the primary domain, you may use the ManageEngine Cloud DNS service to meet this requirement.

  • Sign-up for ManageEngine cloudDNS https://www.manageengine.com/clouddns if you don't have one

  • Add your domain

  • Import DNS zones and records from your previous DNS provider or configure new zones and records with CloudDNS

  • Click on domain name to edit the DNS records

SYSTEM NS

  • In order for the DNS configuration in the CloudDNS to be effective, add the System NS records shown in the domain provider console.

ANAME record

  • Add a ANAME record for the root domain with host value as zhs.zohosites.com.

  • Note: EU Users must point their host value to zhs.zohosites.eu. Likewise, CN, IN , JP, and AU users will use zhs.zohosites.com.cn, zhs.zohosites.in, zhs.zohosites.jp, and zhs.zohosites.com.au, respectively.

CNAME record

  • In order to verify a domain, add a CNAME record, as shown in the screen displayed when the domain is added to the site. It includes the host name (marked in red and which is an alphanumeric token) that points to zhs.zohosites.com (marked in blue).

  • Another CNAME record should be added with the host name 'www' and pointing to zhs.zohosites.com.

  • Usually, DNS changes are reflected in 10-15 minutes. However, in some cases, it could take up to 48 hours.
