Domain Mapping Configuration Guide

Domain Mapping Configuration Guide

Domain mapping connects your custom domain name to your Zoho Sites website. Watch the recorded video tutorial or follow the step-by-step instructions below to configure the required DNS records

Required DNS Records

A. TXT Record (Domain Verification)

Add a TXT Record in your domain provider's DNS management panel to verify domain ownership.
  1. Host name: @ (or leave blank)
  2. Value: zoho-sites-verification={token}
Note: Each domain receives a unique token (highlighted in red in the setup screen)

B. CNAME Record (Website Routing)

Create a CNAME Record to direct traffic to Zoho Sites servers.
  1. Host name: www
  2. Points to: zhs.zohosites.com (use your data center specific CNAME)

Note: Use the appropriate data center specific CNAME values

US (All other)
zhs.zohosites.com
AU
zhs.zohosites.au
IN
zhs.zohosites.in
CN
zhs.zohosites.com.cn
EU
zhs.zohosites.eu
SA
zhs.zohosites.sa
JP
zhs.zohosites.jp
CA
zhs.zohosites.ca

C. Domain Forwarding (Root Domain Redirect)

Set up 301 forwarding to redirect your root domain to the www version.

Info
Zoho Sites uses CNAME Records rather than A Records for domain mapping. If your DNS manager has a default A Record, you can leave it unchanged. To map your third-party domain to Zoho Sites, you only need to add CNAME Records and configure domain forwarding.
Notes
Important:
For HTTPS forwarding, verify that your DNS provider redirects https://sampledomain.com to https://www.sampledomain.com with SSL encryption enabled. If your provider doesn't support this: Consider using a DNS service that allows CNAME records on root domains, such as Cloudflare or ManageEngine CloudDNS.

Step-by-Step Configuration Process

While each domain provider's interface differs, the basic configuration steps remain consistent:
  1. Access Your Domain Console
Log into your domain registrar's administrative panel.
  2. Configure Domain Forwarding
    • Locate the DNS Settings or Domain Management section
    • Find the Forwarding or Redirect option
    • Set your root domain (without www) to forward to www.yourdomain.com
    • Save the configuration
  1. Add DNS Records
    • Navigate to DNS Management or DNS Configuration
    • Add the TXT record for domain verification (from step A above)
    • Add the CNAME record with 'www' pointing to zhs.zohosites.com
  1. Finalize Setup
    • Save all changes
    • Allow time for DNS propagation (typically 1-24 hours)

Info
If you face any issues while mapping your domain to Zoho, you may contact your domain provider's support team. You may provide them with the steps given above and have them assist you. Usually, the changes are reflected in 10-15 minutes. However, in some cases, it could take up to 48 hours.
