Campaigns not syncing with "Opportunities" Module

I followed the steps here to sync opportunities/potentials:

  1. Go to Contacts --> Sync Contacts.
  2. In Sync Details, select Contacts from the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the Criteria option and select the check box related to Potentials Fields.
  4. Now, set the conditions by selecting the Potentials and filter the records from the Potentials tab.
And it simply does not work.  I tried another with different criteria and it still will not sync. I hate to keep testing things because I waste my limited syncs each time. These people are NOT in Contacts but they ARE in opportunities.
