Click to edit fields with Canvas layout

Hi,

I have integrated new layouts using Canvas and its been going well so far. Although I cant seem to figure out how to change the fields so you can click anywhere on it to select or edit the field. Now a small pencil will appear next to the field you have to click on to be able to select/edit it. 

How can I change this in the new canvas layout to click to edit on the field rather than the pencil?
