Contacts cannot be added to the same workflow twice?

We have been told by tech support that a contact can't be added to the same workflow twice, but they did not offer a work-around. Has anyone come up with a work-around for this? 

We can't be the only ones who are having trouble with this? It is very common to have repeat customers who need to be in the same workflow twice. Order updates that repeat, product inquiries that occur more than once, and so on.
