Verizon email shutdown with effect from April 28, 2017; may affect your email deliverability

Hi,

This is to inform you that Verizon is moving out of email industry due to a change in their business strategy with effective from April 28, 2017. This move has led Verizon to migrate their email accounts to AOL, thereby suggesting their customers to move to mail.aol.com.

So, Verizon customers who want to retain their Verizon.net email address need to move their Verizon email address to AOL. In case, Verizon email address users fail to migrate, their email address will be closed automatically.

Impact on email marketing

If most of your contacts are from Verizon domain, then it may impact your email deliverability and there is a possibility that you may incur high bounces.

Recommendation for Email marketers

Here is the list of suggestions for marketers to reduce the impact of this major change on your business.

  • Filter your subscriber database to find out the email addresses with @verizon.net. Contact these subscribers and alert them about the shutdown of verizon.net (email business) and request them to provide a new email address or suggest them to migrate their current Verizon email account to AOL.
  • Try to collect secondary information from your @verizon.net customers. You can get the secondary email address, mobile number, and security questions.
  • Also, Verizon has already partnered with Yahoo, thereby allowing their users to use Yahoo Mail as their email portal. So, even after Verizon stops its email services, a @verizon.net user can continue using their email address using Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail as their email provider.

For more information about the shutdown and details about migration, refer AOL and Verizon help pages that throws more light on this topic.
