Zoho and Google

I've been looking for a replacement for Google Docs for a while, and I rather like how Zoho Writer is working. However, something concerns me. There seems to be various things that can be synced with Google, even to the point of using Google's login. Is Zoho a seperate entity from Google? The reason I ask is that I just don't trust Google with my documents or anything else anymore, and I'd rather not be on a system that Google has any control over.
