Custom View - Sort by Custom Field

Custom View - Sort by Custom Field

I created a custom field for our Engineering team to know which tickets to work first by numbering them.  I created a custom view to general data which includes the Engineering Priority.  However, I cannot sort the Engineering Priority column ascending or descending.  Can I not do this because its a custom field?
