Zoho Cliq API Authtoken - Deprecation Notice

Hi everyone,

 

Time to say hello to OAuth 2.0

 

Zoho Cliq is deprecating the usage of Authtoken from 1st April 2021 for the authentication of API calls in an effort to notch up user security. Thereby we recommend you to consider converting your workflows from Authtokens to OAuth beforehand to avoid any last-minute service disruptions for you and your customers.

 

ie: Any existing workflows and custom functions relying on Authtokens to communicate with Zoho Cliq's APIs must adopt OAuth as Authtokens are being deprecated and will no longer be available after 1st April 2021.


What are access and refresh tokens in OAuth

 

Access Token

 

These tokens provide secure and temporary access to Zoho Cliq's APIs and is used by the applications to make requests to the connected app. Each access token will be valid only for a limited time-period and can be used only for the set of operations that are described in the scope.

   

Refresh Token

 

Refresh tokens are used to obtain new access tokens when the validity period of an access token expires. This token has an unlimited lifetime until it is revoked by the end-user.

 

Here's why you should adopt OAuth :

 

  • OAuth 2.0 is an industry-standard protocol, which means client applications can communicate with Zoho Cliq's APIs in a generalized manner, instead of figuring out a custom solution.


  • OAuth provides access to Zoho Cliq's APIs via access tokens, these tokens expire after a limited time period, thereby it considerably decreases the risk of vulnerable security attacks and data breach.


  • You can specify scopes for access tokens. This means each access token can provide authentication only to the Zoho Cliq APIs which you specify. You can also revoke these access tokens at any time, if necessary.

 

Here's our API Documentation to help you set up OAuth for your client application. Incase if you are using Cliq messaging APIs to send message to bots / channels, you can use webhook tokens  as an alternative.
