Error when importing URL

I get the following error when trying to import from URL.

Error while reading the URL contents. Please verify whether the server (host machine) containing the URL is connectable.

I know the URL works because I can paste it in a browser and see the information, so it is connecting to the host machine. I can't find any information regarding this error.
