Inheriting fields from master data to transaction / subsequent transaction

We have certain fields in the customer master data that we used to inherit when creating a subsequent transaction (e.g. Estimate, Sales Order etc.)

Two examples: 
1. Payment terms            (Standard field in Customer, Custom field in Estimate)
2. Freight Collect N°       (Custom field in Customer, Custom field in Estimate)

Inheriting the information worked a while ago, but stopped working now for some reason. From what I understood the only precondition was that the field names and dropdown values need to be exactly the same. This is absolutely crucial for our business process.
Does anyone experience the same issue / know a workaround?
