Locking A Document During Collaboration

Locking A Document During Collaboration

While collaborating on a document in Zoho Docs you might find a content conflict, when collaborators of a document are working on the same document at the same time. This can be quite frustrating when you want to complete editing your content to the document but other collaborators are simultaneously editing content too. To prevent this conflict of editing content temporarily, you can lock the document, so other collaborators won't be able to edit or add content.

Here is what you need to know when a document is locked:
  • Only the document owner  can lock or unlock the document.
  • Collaborators on the document can see locked document, but they cannot edit the data
  • Collaborators on the document can see the changes made to the document by the owner
To lock a document:
  1. Click on a document that you own in Zoho Docs.
  2. The document will open in the Zoho Writer document editor.
  3. Click on the Share button.
  4. Click on the Lock option, in the share options.
Your document will get locked. If any of the collaborators try to work on a document, which has been locked, then they will be able to see a locked status message in the UI " The Document has been locked by X". To unlock the document after you have edited the document, follow the first 3 steps above and then click on the Unlock option.

Note*: Placing of multiple fine-grain locks  on different regions inside a document to allow concurrent and mutually exclusive editing on the same document, is not supported as of now.
