The visitor list is the best way to separate hot prospects with common category/interests into different lists for easier targeting.

So, the sorting order is by default set based on the lead score  of the visitor, which filters and tops your hot prospects on the list. That is why the visitor list looks unordered or not listed based on the recent visit of the visitor. You can also edit the sorting order according to your priority.

What is Sorting the visitor list?

Sorting is arranging the visitors in the list according to your priority. Sorting can help you to find the hot prospects on the created visitor list based on the actions performed, visit frequency and time spent by the visitor on your website.

You can select the sorting order while creating the list. The options that are available to sort your visitor list are:

• Frequent visitor - Show the most frequently visiting visitors on top of the list.
  
• Recent visitor - Show the recently visited visitor on top of the list.
  
• Top lead scoring visitor - Show the visitors with the high lead score on top of the list. The lead score is calculated based on the lead scoring rule set in the automation section. The top visitor on the list will have the max lead score.
  
• Visitor spent more time - Show the visitors who spent more time on your website on top of the list.
  

Let me explain you with an example :

I would like to view all the website visitors sorted based on their recent visit to my site.

• In Visitor History -> Create list (+) -> Create your Views section. 
  
• I choose the condition as "Visitor type" is equal to "All", and the sorting order to "Recent Visitors".
  

Now the visitor list shows all the visitors on my website sorted based on the recent visit (date and time.) The list shows the last visitor on top followed by the old visitors.

The other two visitor list is sorted based on the lead scoring rule so the hot visitors with much website activity and lead score tops the list and the list looks shuffled with yesterday and today visitors.
