Zoho Vault CLI for Developers and Automations

Hi everyone,

If you're managing credentials in scripts, CI/CD pipelines, or automation workflows, Zoho Vault's Command Line Interface (CLI) can help you securely access and manage secrets directly from your terminal.
 
Zoho Vault was launched in 2013 as a password manager for teams. Over the years, we’ve introduced browser extensions, mobile apps, and desktop apps to help users securely manage credentials across devices. Alongside these, Zoho Vault CLI has been available for years and is already used by customers across industries to automate credential workflows and secure infrastructure.

What is Zoho Vault CLI?  

Zoho Vault CLI lets you interact with your vault directly from the terminal. You can:
  1. Add, edit, and search passwords
  2. Retrieve credentials securely in scripts
  3. Generate strong passwords using the built-in generator
  4. Integrate secret retrieval into automation workflows
It works across Linux, Windows, and macOS, and can easily fit into developer environments, scripts, and automated pipelines.


Getting started  

  1. Download Zoho Vault CLI from here: Apple, Linux, and Windows
  2. Add the package path to your environment variable so it works from any directory
  3. Log in to your Zoho account using: zv login
  4. Open the URL displayed in the console to validate authentication
  5. Unlock your vault: zv unlock [master-password]
Note for macOS users: Newer macOS versions may show an error saying "zv" is blocked because it is not from an identified developer. To resolve this: Go to Settings → Security & Privacy → General and click Open Anyway. You may see the prompt once more—select Open and the CLI will run normally.
