Enhancing Smart Pop-Ups with the 'Number Of Times...' function we see with Goals
I'd like to be able to configure smart pop-ups so they only appear after their activation criteria has been met a certain number of times. This sort of capability exists in Goals (screen-1289) but not smart pop-ups (screen-1288).
Why?
Imagine an anonymous visitor is viewing several pages on your website about the same topic. When they've visited 3 pages on that topic (for example), you want a pop-up to appear asking them to subscribe/download/whatever.
You don't want the pop-up to appear when the visitor looks at one page. That's what you can do at the moment. It's a bit intrusive and Google are going to start penalising pages with automatic pop-ups.
But if they've visited several pages on a topic (i.e. all the pages have a word in their URL) you can be more considerate to users and avoid any penalties Google might impose.
Alternatives
You could sort-of do this already by having a Goal that triggers when the visitor has visited several pages on a topic and having the smart pop-up triggered by the Goal. The problem with this is i) Goals are very unreliable in MH Version 1 and ii) a visitor can only trigger a Goal once. I'd want the smart pop-up to appear every time the visitor looks at 3 pages on a topic (for example).
