Special characters (like â, â, æ) breaking when input in a field (encoding issue)

Hey everyone,

We are currently dealing with a probably encoding issue when we populate a field (mostly but not exclusively, 'Last Name' for Leads and Contracts). If the user manually inputs special characters (like ä, â, á etc.) from Scandinavian languages, the text sometimes "breaks". This does not happen every time but more often than not.

To give you an example:

1. A user creates a new Lead or converts a Lead to a Coach with last name: Kärtæn
2. The image is initially registered correctly
3. Upon checking on the record (without any further change on the last name field), the text shows a big chain of the symbol Ã (e.g. Kà  à Âà  à Â)

Again, this doesn't happen every time. I am not sure if any underlying workflows (non of them modify or even touch the field 'Last name') could create this encoding issue.

Any help would be greatly valued.
