Tip #63- Exploring Technician Console: Elevate to Admin Mode (Windows & Mac)- 'Insider Insights'

Hello Zoho Assist Community!

Ever been in a remote support session where you couldn’t complete a task because you didn’t have admin privileges? Maybe installing software, accessing secure system areas, or rebooting into Safe Mode just didn’t work because your session was running with standard user rights.

That’s where Elevate to Admin Mode comes in! It’s a built-in feature in Zoho Assist that lets you elevate your session to administrator-level access so you can take full control of the remote machine and complete tasks that require elevated privileges.

Windows: How to Elevate to Admin Mode

Technician-Side Elevation

Navigate to Session in Technician Console and select Elevate to Admin Mode. At the credentials prompt, either enter valid Windows admin credentials manually or select saved credentials from the Credential Manager.

Once the authentication is over, you’ll be elevated to admin mode and can run UAC-level tasks seamlessly.

End-User Customer Elevation

If the technician doesn’t have admin credentials, choose Prompt at customer end, the customer can enter their credentials on their side to elevate the session.

macOS: How to Elevate to Admin Mode

Need admin rights on a remote macOS device? Here’s how:

Navigate to Session in Technician Console and select Elevate to Admin Mode. A prompt appears on the remote Mac asking for admin credentials.

Once entered and validated, Assist reconnects in Admin Mode, allowing you to perform tasks needing elevated access, like system configurations or app installations.

When you elevate the session:

  1. Reboot & reconnect even during critical operations
  2. Access UAC prompts and secure desktops
  3. Install apps or run system tools that require admin rights
  4. Switch user profiles without losing your session

These capabilities are available when the Assist app is elevated to run with admin privileges. If you’ve used Elevate to Admin Mode, especially across different devices, share your experiences below!
