Cliq Channels - Clearing a Channel
Previously we had seen Delete and Archive features of Channels. Today we will see about clearing messages in a Channel.
Why do I need to clear messages? What is the difference between deleting and clearing, they both sound the same to me... must be the questions you are having now.
Scenario1: You create a channel
#twitterpost and configure a Bot to post in the channel, whenever someone tags your company. To configure the Bot perfectly, you do trial posts leading to many junk messages in the channel.
Scenario 2: You create a team channel
#apps@zylker to discuss and build apps. But soon you realize that separate channels are needed for web and mobile apps development. So now you create another channel
#mobile-apps@zylker and then change the existing #apps@zylker to
#desktop-app@zylker. You then request all users to be in both channels and share content accordingly.
In both these scenarios, channels have been created to establish the purpose. It can continue on further to serve the purpose, but both the channels now have unwanted messages ( Bot's trial posts and initial messages in apps channel). These messages are not needed and hence they should be cleared to make the channel clutter free. Clearing will remove all traces of previous messages, while detaining the channel info, users, roles and permissions thus making the channel new again without loosing it's originality.
Now that you know when to clear a channel, let us see on how to clear a channel. Hover over the channel in LHS, click on info icon to get the channel preview, then click the last option in bottom right corner and select Clear. Now your channel is cleared off all data and is brand new again!
Hope this was interesting. Until next time peeps! Meanwhile if any queries or clarifications feel free to leave a comment.
