Let me help you with some scenarios to understand how Mute can be a lifesaver at times ( I'm not exaggerating).

Scenario1: A discussion is going on in an Org channel #Trekkers. Adam would love to get involved, but then he has work that should be turned in at the end of hour. So he goes ahead and mutes the channel for 1 hour, finishes his work, turns it in, and then gets back to the channel.
Scenario 2: Emma is going on a short vacation and so she wants to keep the channel notifications to a minimum. She does it by muting all channels except the ones she wants to stay in tune with and enjoys her vacation.

Now that you got a better idea of muting channels, let's quickly see on how to do it.

1. Desktop: In the header bar of Channel, hover on the Mute icon (bell shaped) and select the timeframe that you want the channel to be muted, and you're done!
2. iOS & Android apps: Long press on a channel and select Mute.
3. Windows app: Go to settings of that channel to mute it.

Ohh, and one more thing, you can also mute channels for an hour through Push notifications (iOS). It's super cool right? No more constant lighting up of your phone when you're in the middle of something important, as you can always mute them instantly.
