Feedback on Zoho Sheet

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on the commendable effort of getting something like this on the web. I know that there are competing product offerrings but Zoho seems to be the best of the lot that I have tried. Also like the integration with Google and Yahoo sign on.

Those were the bouquets, here come the brickbats. I spent some time on Zoho Sheet and was disappointed by atleast a couple of things.

First, by the time taken to update the values of the lower part of a range chain when a chain cell is updated in the upper part.
For example if I have a column of 100 cells, the values of each of which depend on a single cell in another row, based on a formula. If I change the value of this single cell, the values of each of the 100 cells in the first row should get updated via a formula. Like for an interest rate calculation scenario if I change the interest rate the interest payable every year changes. The time takes is just not acceptable, though I like the yellow highlighting of the cells that were updates/affected by the change.

Second, on a very related note the dragging of values or formulae from one cell to another vie the plus drag takes a long time when the number of target cells is large. So if I define a formula in one cell and want to drag it for a 100 cells, it takes way to long to update. Though I like the fact that you guys have put in the functionality to update cell numbers in a formula on the drag and to not change the cell when preceeded by a '$' sign. That was impressive.

Lack of ability to quickly format cells is an issue. For example if my numeric data has inconsistency in the number of digits after the decimal, ranging from no values after the decimal to 8 values after the decimal point, and I want to make them all uniformly have only 2 digits after the decimal, I have to keep playing with the Decrease/Increase decimal button to get them all to uniform lenghts. An MS Excel kind of Format option on the context menu would be really helpful, with the features offerred by the Format option available.

Lastly, for the time being cause I will likely follow up with more requests for enhancements the more I use Zoho, the inability to lock cells and protect sheets is a major drawback especially when sharing files. It is a very common scenario when you want to share spread sheets where you want users to be able to modify values for some cells but not give them the ability to modify any calculated fields for fear of them messing up the formulae. This is something that most power users who stop short of becoming Excel VBA programmers would want.

Keep up the good work guys, hope to see more updates and a more robust suite of applications that can actually replace the desktop based traditional productivity suites. Also hope that some of my suggestions above are inculcated to make this a more user-friendly feature rich app..
