Folders Versus WorkSpaces (and moving docs in-between)

I have documents in both folders and workspaces. I have been able to move documents (or what appears to be access / a copy of them) into a workspace, but recently I was consolidating a number of docs and uploaded them right into workspaces. 

After doing that, I cannot move them into folders, and I cannot see them with the mobile app... So, here is the question. The workspace feels more temporary wham a folder. I like that a workspace can be shared, but if the workspace is deleted, all of the docs are deleted as well... correct?

If I move a doc from a folder into a workspace, do they become different versions of the same doc? (it does not appear that way) but when I remove the workspace or delete a doc from a workspace, it appears NOT to delete the doc from the folder... true? 

If so, would it be best to move the docs into folders first, then place them in workspaces too be shared?
