How to bill Subscription Annually, but Addon Monthly

I have reviewed the documentation and looked at the UI and I cannot find a way to do this with in the built in systems.

We have a Software subscription that the customer purchases, this is billed annually. This system is working.

We would like to add an Addon that is billed monthly recurring until the add-on is removed or when subscription is canceled. 

The customer might only want the addon service for a few months. Or they may not be able to afford to pay for 12 months of the addon. The Addon could also be added mid subscription. We do not want to collect the full year amount at the time of the addon being added.

How do we accomplish this? Please note we are using the API to manage the accounts data flow to zoho  from our own softwares account management system.

If zoho does not support this, I assume we would need to build something that will do this externally of zoho, then utilize the buy Addon one time. This would be like a sub-Subscription that we would have to manage in our system which is not ideal.
