How does one start a conversation with external user!?

I am struggling for more than two hours here, trying to insert a collaborator into our group chat!
Cannot evetn start 1-1 conversation...

I add the contact, the link comes via mail just to enter cliq and that is it.. 
It never appears in contact on cliq later!
