client Lan connections

i have a Linux client on the same network as my tech workstation.

the Linux box is now connected to a vpn so i have to connect to it through the vpn.

how does the linux client report it's ip address to my dashboard ..... is there a specific url that it uses, because i have the ability to bypass traffic to certain url's and exclude them from the vpn.

I simply want to connect locally as the response time will be faster.
