Client Script - Simple popup if a field is not filled

Hi,

should be simple but I'm quite a beginner at script :

I have a field that I don't want to make mandatory, but I would really like to encourage employees to fill.

My goal is to show them a popup when they save a contact (initial save + all the saves after) telling them

"year of birth is not filled. Please fill it" with only a OK button.

It would still save the record.

Note : sometime we just don't have the year of birth so if I make the field mandatory, user will just fill it with crap, so I prefer an empty field.

I welcome any other way to do it : ex : validation rules...
