CRM Related List Fields -> Marketing Hub

We are really struggling to get either MB or Campaigns to work for us.

We are wanting to create Marketing Lists based on fields in a related list in the Contacts module. We need it to link to Contacts as this is where the marketing preferences sit - it is also where crucial data regarding contact history sits. We are a training provider and so need to know what courses each contact has/hasn't done so we can send them relevant marketing material - this course information is in a custom module and links to Contacts via a related list/lookup.

ANY SUGGESTIONS would be much appreciated. I feel like I have tried every possible work around without any success - for whatever reason the fields we are need are hidden in MH/Campaigns when doing a sync.
