Creating a parent-child relationship between modules

Hello,

I have a few custom modules all attempting to use the Email related list exactly as the Accounts module does (showing in the Account all emails sent to the contacts associated with it). It is my understanding that this does not work the same way in custom modules. Not sure why but I bet there is a way to create a related list using custom function option to reference the emails properly just like the Accounts module does currently. Anyone have any idea?
