Deprecation of Google Drive and Google Sheets services in extensions

Starting from August 15, 2024, Google Drive and Google Sheets services will not be accessible as default services in Zoho Desk.

Reason for deprecation: Google has found sensitive scopes in the Google Drive and Google Sheets connections, prompting us to remove these connectors from the default services as a precautionary step to improve security.

Scopes removed from Google connection

We would like to inform you that the following restricted scopes have been removed from the Google connection:

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.metadata

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.metadata.readonly

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly

Impact

Existing connections using the default Google Drive and Google Sheets services will stop to work after the specified date.
Users cannot establish new connections with these services using the default services.
Extensions relying on these default connections will also cease to function properly.

How to continue utilizing Google Drive and Google Sheets

Developers have the option to utilize Google Drive and Google Sheets through the creation of custom service connections. This approach enables the use of these services with scopes that are customized for particular use cases.

Developers need to follow these steps to switch to custom service:

1. Create custom connections with the appropriate scopes, similar to the default connections.

2. Replace the default connection link name with the custom connection service link name.

Users must manually update all instances of the affected connections with the new custom connections in all Custom Functions.

3. Publish the extension with the custom connection so that users can update and utilize the extension without any interruptions.

Users need to follow the below steps to update extensions with custom connections:

1. Once the developer includes and publishes the extension with the custom connection, the extension will be updated with the new connection link name details.

2. Click the Update option next to each extension that involves custom connections.

If the update option does not appear after publishing the custom functions, disable the extension and wait for the update option to be reflected.

3. Reauthorize the services under the connections.

4. Re-enable the extension.
