Introducing: Page-level permissions for your event microsite

Your event microsite is the digital one-stop-shop for anyone interested in your event. However, it's not necessary for everyone to have access to all microsite content. As event planners know, exclusivity can be a big incentive, and restricting access to content can make it all the more enticing. Another reason not to allow everyone access is security. With the increase in virtual events—especially free ones—it's easier than ever for trolls to access your event, so having some form of gatekeeping is safer all around.

Keeping in mind these reasons and others—including flexibility of use and privacy—we give you our latest feature: page visibility options for the event microsite. You can now control who accesses what pages, allowing only specific members to view certain content and participate in activities like posting photos in the event gallery or networking in discussion channels. One other benefit here is that you can include these options as perks for higher (or paid) ticket classes when using tiered ticketing for your event.

To modify a page's visibility settings, go to the Design tab in an event's Microsite Builder. You can access all the microsite pages from the Pages option in the left pane. Click the Menu icon to the right of a page and select Edit. You can now set a visibility option for that page.

The visibility levels available in Backstage

At the first step, you can provide three levels of access for a particular microsite page. These are:

  • Public: Anyone on the internet can view the page.
  • Logged-in visitors: Anyone who has logged into the event microsite can view the page. This means any prospect or interested visitor who's willing to give you their email address can view the content.
  • Ticket-holders: This visibility level allows access only to people who have registered for your event. Nobody else can access this page or its contents.

But this third option—ticket-holders only—comes with a further subset of permission levels. You can restrict access to just attendees with tickets from a particular ticket class. If you'd like speakers, sponsors, and other stakeholders to be privy to this content, you can give them free tickets of varying benefits via access codes and enable those ticket classes when deciding the page's access level. This is to give you complete privacy and control over every aspect of the event microsite.

And one more thing...

Your event microsite is not always silos of separate pages. They're all interlinked—usually through buttons—creating an intricate web of actions to nudge visitors from one part of the microsite to another. In Backstage, when you hide a page, all buttons leading to that page will also be hidden from a visitor.

For example, let's say you've hidden the Agenda page or the Tickets page from all non-logged-in users. These visitors will not be able to see the Register button or the View Agenda button in the Home page. We've made the buttons smart so you don't have to do any extra work. We assure you there'll be no loopholes for access to a hidden page.

Happy organizing!
