Unable to prefill CRM fields via CRM email templates/mail merge

Hi,

I have a number of customer contacts I need to make to ask them to update their contact details & confirm some booking details. The easiest way to do this is to prefill a form, so they can correct only the contact details that have changed and pick dates for events (etc).

However, the only way to share a prefilled form appears to be via inserting the forms link in individual emails. This is too labour intensive -- when individual emails are already able to "mail merge" variables when sending an email template to a single contact, I don't understand why the mass email screen doesn't allow inserting of fields, or alternately, for email or mail-merge templates to allow inserting prefill form links.

Is there a work-around I can try? I've looked at aliasing fields in the form, but the documentation is too vague for me to be able to tell if this will update existing CRM records or make a mess of my CRM data.
