Create and manage sprints
Zoho Sprints enables you to run your projects in a series of short team projects that are sprints. A sprint in agile project management can be defined as the shortest span of time within which a select few tasks are completed. The completion of those tasks indicates the completion of that sprint. Create sprint
You can create a sprint in the sprint backlog. It provides you with a curating system to select and put together work items for a sprint. You can also use the global add option to create sprint for any project within your workspace from anywhere across the application.
There are two ways to create a sprint: You can create from scratch or use a template to reuse an existing sprint.
To create new sprint:
- Open the required project.
- Go to Backlog.
- Click the Create button. The sprint creation form will appear.
- Enter sprint name.
- Provide a description.
- Select sprint owner.
- Select sprint users.
Note: You can also import users from other sprints. - Specify duration for the sprint. According to the best practices of agile scrum method, 2 weeks is an ideal duration for a sprint. However, you can set up to 30 weeks.
- Click the Create button. The sprint will be created in the backlog. You can add the required work items to the sprint by creating new items or by dragging and dropping items from project backlog.
- Customize the item creation form by adding more fields. You can customize the form layout in Customization under Settings.
- Enable a strict scrum process to ensure your project adheres to scrum principles. Learn more.
- Navigate to the sprint details view to view dashboards and other tabs. Learn more.
- Navigate to sprints board to view sprint. Learn more.
To create sprint from template:
- Open the required project.
- Go to Backlog.
- Click the Create button. The sprint creation form will appear.
- Click the Choose project template link.
- Select the required project and sprint to reuse for this sprint.
- Shift the date of the sprint to adjust to the new timeline.
- Click the Create button. The sprint will be added to the backlog with the data available in that selected template. You can make modifications according to your new requirement.
Start sprint
To start a sprint:
- Open the required project.
- Go to the Sprint Backlog.
- Click the Start button in the required sprint.
- Modify the start and end dates if necessary.
- Schedule a meeting for the sprint.
- Click the Start button. You will be taken to the board to view the sprint's progress.
Alternatively, you can also start the sprint from the sprint details page.
You will receive a sprint reminder as well as an update on your feeds timeline when the sprint is about to start or end and when it is overdue.
Edit sprint
To edit sprint details:
- Open the required project.
- Go to the Sprint Backlog.
- Click the name of the sprint to be edited. The sprint details page will appear.
- Make changes to the details.
- Click the Update button.
About updating sprint duration
Agile methodology helps users to plan and prioritize the deliverables even before the work is started. The team estimates the work items for the sprint and schedules the duration of the sprint during the sprint plan meeting.
After the sprint is started, modifying the dates can lose the tracking process of your actual vs planned charts.
Based on the total estimated points of the sprint, the burndown and burnup charts are plotted on a daily basis. Modifying the dates can hinder the team in tracking the progress of the sprint and its actual end date.
You will not be able to know your team's performance (velocity of your team) if you frequently update the duration of your sprint.
Delete sprint
To delete a sprint:
- Open the required project.
- Go to the Sprint Backlog.
- Click the name of the sprint to be edited. The sprint details page will appear.
- Click the Delete icon in the right-side menu bar. A confirmation pop-up will appear.
- Click the Delete button. The sprint will be deleted along with the work items in it.
Reorder sprint
You can reorder the sequence of the sprints displayed in the backlog.
To reorder sprints:
- Open the required project.
- Click the ellipsis icon at the top.
- Select Reorder Sprints option. The reorder window will appear.
- Drag and drop the sprints to reorder or edit the position numbers to change the sequence.
- Click the Update button to save changes.
You can also use the advanced filter option to filter the items in the sprint backlog, export items in the sprint backlog, and import work items.
