Announcement: Unused formula fields are no longer computed

We are here with a quick announcement about formula fields.

Previous behavior:
If you remove an active formula field from your layout, it will be moved under the unused fields tray. Although, you cannot see the removed formula field on the face of the record, the system was executing calculations every time the participating fields in the formula is edited/updated, in the backend.

How did we identify and what is the resolve?
We identified this behavior when the formula fields appended to templates were displaying results despite their removal. This stealth execution of formula fields in the backend caused us technical processing issues.

To address this, we have curtailed this behavior. Now, the minute you remove an active formula field, it will stop calculating.

If you add the said formula field back to the layout, it will only display the value that was there during removal.

Only if you change the values in the participating fields does the formula field start to recompute.


If you, by any chance, have had a formula field in your templates,

* The value will be rendered blank or NA, henceforth.

* Even if you have added the field back to the layout, the values might not be current.
