Bulk Edit-Bug or Feature

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

I tried to do a bulk edit on a field that is shown in the view but is hidden on the form. There was no error message but the value did not change. When I removed the hide statement from On Edit->On Load I was able to bulk edit the field.
