Cut & paste from MS Word

If I Cut & Paste from an external Word document, all the formatting comes with it, and it seems impossible to get rid of it from the Edit screen. Going into the HTML and removing the tags is a hassle, and not something I would be able to get some collaborators to do. (I'm not an HTML expert, and my collaborators even less so.)

If I highlight a paragraph and apply a different style, it changes some attributes but not others. Likewise with 'Remove All Text Styles' - I would expect it to delete all tags in the selection so that the selection would just take on the style of its surrounding text, but while it might change some attributes it leaves others behind. Going to the HTML, I can see a forest of tags still there.

Am I missing something, or is there a problem with changing/removing text styles?

I would be happy with Writer stripping all formatting by default when text is pasted, perhaps with a settable option to retain pasted formatting if you wanted. My work-around is to C&P via Notepad so the formatting is left behind, but that's not terribly satisfactory.
